2018 — lemonade
- ICY & SOT... originally from Tabriz and now hailing from Brooklyn, the two Iranian brothers known as Icy and Sot express their frustration and anger about an insensitive and numb society via impressive public interventions they carefully place all over the city. Having left their stencil and sticker-based work of their early career behind, the brothers nowadays are known for their thought-provoking pieces fuelled by daily political and social injustices, which then blur the line between activism, street art and conceptual artwork.
- NATURAL PLASTICITY... it’s a roaming public art installation, which highlights the enormity of the disposable plastic waste problem contaminating the environment. Made from post-consumer plastic, the gigantic inflatable, soft sculptures of a single-use plastic cup and straw (32-foot) and bottle (20-foot) provide a stark visualisation of essentially one person’s single-use plastic consumption for one year.
- STEPHEN BURRIDGE... summer is the season when you put your David Niven outfit in mothballs and proudly sport very choice tees instead, it’s the time when evenings have a smooth crossover into endless nights and spontaneously joining an outdoor rave feels like being at the very center of the universe. Everything that matters is happening outside. And British photographer Stephen Burridge is a master of capturing every lil’ pleasure that will rock our world before we all have to welcome summer’s ghost a few weeks later once again.
- BALEARIC SPECIAL... It’s very easy to state amongst music aficionados that the Balearic revival most definitely is at an all-time high these days. In actuality though, Balearic a) never really left, mainly because b) it should be predominately considered an ideal about how music should be perceived rather than it being a specific genre, really. Lodown asked a few carefully selected DJs and producers very familiar with anything Balearic to go through their extensive record collection, in order to pick a personal game changer from this field.
