Überfahrt
Spector books
Forty days on a container ship from Hamburg to Qingdao, China. Photographer Michael Disqué and writer Roman Ehrlich do not simply document a journey, they create an essay of images and words pondering the political context of global freight traffic, the loss of connection to the reality of dry land, and the fragile mythologies of seafaring. This book is a work of participative self-observation and a reflection on a life of quotidian routine that follows its own laws. It is about the possibility of depicting the processes underlying these world journeys, which are the very antithesis of adventure, and about the phenomena and fictions associated with the logistics of global trade.
After Theater des Krieges (2017), Überfahrt is the second collaboration between Michael Disqué and Roman Ehrlich for Spector Books. It is the fourth volume in the Volte Expanded series, which engages contemporary literature in an interactive dialogue with images and book design.
Michael Disqué (b. 1980 in Heidelberg), studied art history and photography. He runs the project space Kleiner Raum für aktuelles Nichts in Berlin-Kreuzberg.
