/ The idea to establish a magazine about painting, made predominately by painters, became concrete in 2003 during one of our many discussions – arguments about our own work and other painters that interested us. / We, along with most of our friends, have a long history of such discussions (usually in the pub) and built on fairly regular studio visits. These discussions are vital to us and we wondered if there might be a demand for a magazine that could act as a forum for the ideas and views of painters. / Partly because art criticism is not a science and because we believe good painting is not driven by ideological principles, Turps Banana does not carry a singular position or attitude about painting, but is as open as possible, in order to allow dialogues to develop. / What excites us most is that uniquely, the contributors are not critics or professional art writers, but practitioners whose contributions will hopefully illuminate their own practice as they reflect on their contemporaries and their interest in the history of painting. / We would like to thank all our contributors and readers for their support in helping to make the magazine a success.

No fashion, please! – die Verweigerung herkömmlicher Vorstellungen von Mode und Schönheit ist das zentrale Thema der 19 Einzelpräsentationen aus der internationalen zeitgenössischen Fotografieszene vorgestellt, die die fundamentale Beziehung zwischen Körper und (Be-)Kleidung, die Dialektik zwischen Form und Erscheinung des Körpers untersucht und hinterfragt. Die ausgewählten Künstler stehen in der Tradition der Körperkunst und arbeiten stark mit Querverweisen zu Installationen, Zeremonien und Ritualen.

Modern ist das Fahrrad allemal. Das zeigt ein Blick in die Geschichte: auch am Bauhaus wurde in den zwanziger Jahren mit dem Fahrrad konstruiert und gestaltet. Und heute liefert die Radmobilität bedeutsame Impulse für die Mobilitätswende in den Städten. So fragt das Buch Mobilitätsdesign für die Bauhaus Fahrradstadt: Was kann ein Mobilitätsdesign für die heutige Stadt, ihre Räume und Menschen leisten? “On Saturday, 14 November 2015, as we were walking through the city, we saw that the people selling fruit and vegetables on the Boulevard de Rochechouart had already unloaded the crates from their cars before realizing that the state of emergency that had been imposed on Paris also affected their market. They stood around, uncertain what to do. They weren’t quite ready to pack up their perishable goods again. The terrorist attacks had had an impact on them too. It was only later that I realized that I should have recorded the situation, that it revealed more about the day than the endless repeats of reports from the scene and rituals of grief.” This was the entry Jan Wenzel, publisher of Spector Books, posted in his Facebook blog. The État d’urgence affected everyone who was in the capital at the time. Like so many of her colleagues, Bettina Lockemann had travelled to the city to attend Paris Photo. On 14 November 2015 she roamed through the city with her camera, recording the oppressive atmosphere in its streets and squares.
