The White Review No. 32 features cover artwork and a longform interview with Turner Prize-winning artist Lubaina Himid. In an experimental translation project, Maria Stepanova and Eugene Ostashevsky paraphrase the Roman poet Ovid’s poetry of exile. RZ Baschir, who won the 2021 White Review Short Story Prize sponsored by RCW, captures the horror of oppression in 'The Chicken'.
The issue includes interviews with novelists Irenosen Okojie, Ocean Vuong and artist Zach Blas alongside a series of artworks, and fiction by Saneh Sangsuk (translated from Thai by Mui Poopoksakul) and Shane Jones. Polly Barton writes an ode to the Japanese new-wave pop star Jun Togawa. Lili Hamlyn examines death denial by way of cyrogenics and posthumous sperm retrival.
