fingers crossed

(ECAL/HKDI teaching residency program)

Praesens Editionen

“Fingers Crossed” is a publication that showcases the result of research, design, and workshop processes during the ECAL/HKDI teaching residency program between September and December 2018 in Hong Kong. Published by Präsens Editionen, Luzern (CH) and with support of ECAL (Ecole cantonale d’Art de Lausanne), Lausanne (CH).
The project started as part of the lectures and classes run by David and Federico at HKDI (Hong Kong Design Institute) with the second and third-year students of the Visual Communication course. During the semester they purposed a series of lectures about graphic history of newspapers and, in this period they had a chance to interview local artists about horse racing as a culture in Hong Kong and its effect on contemporary society.
Those lectures were useful to give to the students a
visual tool to start a re-interpretation of the local and very common horse racing bet newspaper. Federico and David decide to explore, study and at the end transform
this daily-usage tool in a new printed space, where each student could imagine a personal view and message about the topic, through modules, grids and typographic spaces.
