Im Jahr 2015 erschien von Andrzej Steinbach der Fotoband Figur I, Figur II, in dem zwei Frauen porträtiert wurden. In seinem neuen Buch erweitert er den Personenkreis, um sich fotografisch mit der Frage auseinanderzusetzen: Warum sollte man binären Ordnungsschemata misstrauen und sich Figurationen des Dritten zuwenden? Als fotografischer Ausgangspunkt dient Steinbach das klassische Format des Gruppenbildes bzw. des Familienporträts. Alle beteiligten Figuren schauen in Richtung Kamera und blicken zum Betrachter hin. Aber im Bildmittelpunkt ist immer nur eine Person zu sehen, die anderen sind angeschnitten. In der Serie wechseln die Modelle ihre Positionen und auch die Kleidung, so dass ein Verwirrspiel entsteht und die Dreierkonstellation immer wieder aus der Ordnung gerät. Der Titel Gesellschaft beginnt mit drei lehnt sich an den gleichnamigen Essay von Ulrich Bröckling an und ist Steinbachs gelungene fotografische Umsetzung dieses Gedankens.

“(Curating) From A to Z” offers a summary of the development of curatorial practice over the last two decades seen through the eyes of curator Jens Hoffmann. In this publication each letter of the alphabet evokes a particular word related to the world of exhibition making: From A (as in Artist) and B (as in Biennial) to R (as in Retrospective) and W (as in White Cube). The entries are not only stimulating and intellectually rigorous, but also emotionally engaging. Jens Hoffmann (b. 1974 in San José, Costa Rica) is a writer, exhibition maker, and educator. He currently is Deputy Director of The Jewish Museum, New York. About This Book Dialectical acuity and lucid absurdity are the defining characteristics of the sculptures and object constellations created by Alicja Kwade (b. Katowice, 1979; lives and works in Berlin). The artist deftly combines elementary materials and ordinary objects with products that carry their own cultural histories. Her haunting “pictures” in space probe the human condition under the sway of physics as well as late capitalism. The conceptual tenacity and sensual quality of Kwade’s work and her keen sense of materials, surfaces, and spatial interrelations earned the artist the 2015 hector prize, which comes with a solo exhibition at Kunsthalle Mannheim.
